EMERGENCIES The emergency number is 999. Make sure that you indicate a "medical emergency" if you wish an ambu-lance. If you use the term "accident," you will only get the police. MEDICAL FACILITIES/HOSPITALS Public Health Services: Medical treatment is available to all residents at the Hamad General Hospital (http://hgh.hamad.qa/en) and its regional clinics, which also is the recommended option for emergency room needs. To access the majority of subsidised or free treatments available at government health facilities in Qatar, it is necessary to present a Health Card. Acquiring a Health Card is not mandatory, but emergency treatment is generally free to Health Card holders, and non-emergency consultations are subsidised. Health Card holders are also entitled to subsidised prescriptions at government pharmacies. The health care card formalities are arranged by the school once the RP is issued. Joining staff can go to Hamad Medical Emergency Centre before their RP is done; patients not holding a Health Card will be charged as visitors. Established in 1982, HMC is one of the region's most distinguished specialized medical establishments. Presently, the corporation supervises the following hospitals: Hamad General Hospital, Rumaila Hospital, Women Hospital, Al-Khor Hospital, Al-Amal Hospital, Heart Hospital, Al Wakrah Hospital and the Cuban Hospital. It won the JCI certification for quality health facilities. There are two Paediatric Centres in Doha, located in Al Rayyan and Al Sadd areas.
